A busy superbowl weekend was in store for the Tornados American football teams this weekend.
First up we had 6 players representing the North, along with players from Chorley Buccaneers, playing in a National flag tournament, in Studley, against the best from Central and South. Representing the cadets (under 12s) were Harrison Hill, Grace Tulloch and Leah Tulloch, and for the juniors (u17) were Khan Durnall, Oliver Norwood and Rob Welti. The North U17 were also coached by Tornados and GB player Jensen Fairhurst.
The U17 had their first game against Coventry Panthers girls and won 40-6, with the majority of TDs coming from the Tornado players. The second game for the U17 was an extremely hard fought game against a side much older in comparison, from the South. The North were down by 6 at the half but having to dig deep they secured a win with a TD and a conversion, leaving the final score 7-6. The final game of the day would be against the Central team, and although the North could not get their running game off there were some exceptional pass plays from Chorley QB to Tornados Rob Welti. The final score for this game was a loss to the North at 18-47. You really wouldn’t believe that in the regular season these players are fierce rivals, but today all that was put aside and the players played as a team.
The U12 team only had 2 games to play, first up against Central then the South team. The game against Central was going really well for the North team, and the Burnley players as they all got on the score card, making 13 of the 14 points. The final score for this game was 14-0. The second game was a much tougher game and the North struggled to get going but did manage to score 13 points against a very good South team. The final score being 13-43. All the players who represented our club were a credit to their teams and are now looking forward to getting back to training for the beginning of the regular season.
