Introducing Adam, a member of the Tornados for just under a year. These are his words;
‘At the start, I could take or leave American football, I liked watching but wasn’t sure playing would be for me. But as I got into it I found I had a real thirst for it. I’m not physical in any sense of the word, but you don’t know until you’ve tried it, you can take a hard hit and not realise it. I’ve had a huge guy run through me at full speed and I thought in that moment ‘I’m going to die’ but I pulled off my proudest moment in practice by wrapping him up and taking him down after PT (one of the coaches) gave me the confidence to learn to take a hit and make the tackle.
People who want the aggression seem to think it’s soft because you wear pads, but it just means everything can happen a lot quicker. I was terrified taking the field in my first game but I couldn’t have been more wrong on how it would feel to actually play, it’s the best thing I have done in a long while and I want that to continue. It might seem a bit complicated at first, but it’s not as hard as you’d think to learn, and you get given plenty of time.
If I had to say why people should give it a go, i’d just say; how often do you get to try a completely new sport nowadays? What’s the worst that could happen!
